Our customer from the automotive industry faced a serious logistical problem. Components for production had to be transported from Nitra (Slovakia) to the Jaguar factory in Birmingham (United Kingdom).
The distance was over 1,800 km, and the delivery time was only 30 hours.
The enquiry was received around noon, and loading was scheduled for 8:00 a.m. the next day. The shipment had to arrive in the UK by 4:00 p.m. the following day at the latest to avoid stopping the production line.
An additional requirement was the need to use mega trailers due to the size of the load.
Characteristics of the automotive industry
The automotive industry requires the highest precision and close coordination – every element of the supply chain must be synchronised down to the minute in order to maintain continuity of production and avoid downtime. Production operates on a just-in-time or just-in-sequence basis, where even a slight delay in delivery can mean downtime for the entire assembly line and huge financial losses. It is a high-risk logistics environment where not only time counts, but also reliability and the ability to react quickly.
Solution
The Jasek Transport team needed less than 40 minutes to analyse the possibilities for implementation and, on this basis, prepared an action plan.
At that moment, only single-crew lorries were available, which required the development of an unusual strategy:
organising transport using three lorries, which transferred the semi-trailer with goods at two transit points – in Germany and Belgium.
This minimised travel time and kept the cargo in constant motion.
It was also decided to use the Eurotunnel instead of a ferry crossing. Despite the higher costs, this solution ensured complete independence from the weather and a faster journey to the UK.
The operation required not only precise coordination, but also readiness for unplanned changes. Each stage was monitored in real time so that any delays could be responded to immediately.
Why did they choose our services in the first place?
A customer from the automotive industry turned to Jasek Transport because they needed a partner who understood the pace and requirements of just-in-time deliveries. This is an environment where every hour of delay can halt the entire production line, and the cost of downtime is calculated in tens of thousands of euros. In such a reality, it is not only the availability of the fleet that counts, but above all the ability to react quickly and anticipate risks.
Jasek Transport has experience in serving the automotive industry and, as a result, the ability to plan highly complex transports, even when resources are limited. The team is able to make decisions quickly, prepare alternative plans and implement them in the field without compromising the quality of service.
Another advantage was the diverse fleet, including mega semi-trailers, and the willingness to use non-standard operational solutions, such as organising semi-trailer transfers en route or choosing the more expensive but faster Eurotunnel. The whole process was complemented by constant communication with the customer and monitoring of delivery progress, which guaranteed full transparency and a sense of control on the part of the client.
The Result
Thanks to a well-thought-out plan, the drivers’ experience, and a bit of luck (no traffic jams or other obstacles), the delivery arrived at its destination two hours ahead of schedule.
The customer avoided production downtime, and Jaguar’s assembly line continued to operate without interruption.
Although the operation involved higher costs, including “empty miles” and the need to wait for voltage surges, the efficiency and timeliness of the delivery were key to maintaining production continuity.
Our approach to every collaboration as a business partnership has proven itself once again. Speed of response, flexibility, and fleet adaptation are values that directly translate into success.
As a result, the customer not only gained the certainty of timely delivery, but also a logistics partner who understands the pressure of production and is able to operate in its rhythm, regardless of distance, time, and circumstances.
